1. Let Me Introduce Myself
“Of all the blog joints in all the towns, in all the world, you walked into mine. "
Yes, I started my very first blog post with a Casablanca quote, and there’s a lot more where that came from. However you found your way to my little corner of the internet….welcome, I’m so glad you’re here!
THE BASICS
I’m currently the Public Relations Manager at Feeding Children Everywhere. This global non profit is dedicated to the vision of a hunger-free world. While at FCE I’ve seen the launch of new and innovative programs that are revolutionizing the way we address hunger in America. Being a part of this team has been the highlight of my career so far.
I previously served in the public sector as a Special Outreach Assistant for the U.S. Senate. While working with Senator Rubio I acquired a new appreciation for our government, and fell in love with our democratic system all over again.
I’m passionate about contributing to causes that make a positive impact on our world, from conservation and the environment, to humanitarian and social issues.
THE EXTRAS
As a Cuban-American raised by refugees, my foundation was built on three pillars: do good, never settle, and work hard.
Cooking isn’t just a routine in our house. It’s a celebration, a coping mechanism, a type of therapy, and a form of expression. Favorites include (but are not limited to):
Croquetas (the best thing to come out of Cuba since sliced Cuban bread)
Salmon in almost any form (I’m not picky here)
Tacos, tacos, tacos
I love all things salsa… the dip and the dancing.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Now that you know a little about me, let me tell you what you can expect around here. I started this blog because there are a lot of exciting things going on in the world! The UN just wrapped up their General Assembly and the media is flooded with topics on how we plan to improve life for people and the planet. If you’re a nerd like me, and you haven’t heard about the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, boy are you in for a treat. Most of my content will be related to these goals, aka SDG’s. Think food security, conservation, sustainability and gender equality (these are a few of my favorite things). Yes, another quote from yet another film.
I promise to do my best to share interesting and relevant content focused on how we’re tackling these issues, locally and on a global scale. I’ll share news updates, insight from industry leaders and tips on how you can contribute to causes you’re passionate about. While these topics can be heavy (issues worth fighting for typically are) I promise to always keep a positive outlook, focusing not only on the issue, but how we’re solving it. Humans are resilient and I believe that through collaboration and innovative (albeit sometimes unconventional) approaches, we will leave this planet better than we found it.
Phew. I got through my first blog. How’d I do?! Thank you for joining me on this journey… “here’s looking at you, kid.”
